How To: Microsoft Word Mac Rebuild Font Cache

Sometimes your Mac OS X font database cache needs to be cleared out and rebuilt. You may notice issues with fonts not displaying correctly in applications, fonts loading slowing in Microsoft Word, causing Word or Adobe to suddenly crash.  It is good practice to clean and rebuild your Mac OS X font caches only if you are exhibiting issues mentioned above. To get started, follow the steps below.

1. Open Terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal) 

2. Type in the following command. This command will remove font databases and any associated cache files.

 sudo atsutil databases –remove

3. After the command finishes, repair Mac disk permissions. Or type the following command into Terminal.

 sudo /usr/libexec/repair_packages --repair --standard-pkgs --volume /

4. Reboot your Mac.
