Fix: The destination trash does not allow messages to be moved to it – macOS Mail

If you attempt to delete or move an email message in macOS Mail, you receive a message the prevents you from moving the message to the Trash mailbox.

The destination “Trash” does not allow messages to be moved to it.

This is likely being caused by your IMAP Deleted or Trash folder not showing up in the macOS Mail client for the mailbox you are trying to delete the email message in. To fix, login to your email provider (such as GMAIL) and show the deleted/trash folder under IMAP settings. Once you do this, restart macOS Mail app and you should be able to delete messages normally again.
