Fix: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile Desktop is Unavailable
Upon logging into a Windows machine, you may receive the following error immediately.
C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you’re connected to the network or Internet, and then try again. If the location still can’t be found, it might have been moved or deleted.
You receive this error because Windows is attempting to log you in with a temporary profile and there is no available space on the Windows C: drive to create you a profile folder. You will not see any icons on your desktop and you won’t be able to search for any application.
- Open C:\temp and delete anything in this folder to quickly clear up space.
Note: if you cannot open a Windows explorer Window, try to invoke a window by typing anything into a Windows search box.
- Run Disk Cleanup in Windows. Go to Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup.
- Logoff and back in when you are able to clear space up.
Note: If you cannot log off Windows normally, open a windows command prompt and simply type logoff.
