Fix: Windows Media Player Encountered a Problem While Playing The File

You may receive an error in Windows Media Player while trying to play an audio file.

 

Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.

 





1. Reset Windows Media Player. Go to Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Programs -> Windows Media Player settings then Reset Windows Media Player to default settings.

 

2. Try disabling enhancements in Sound Options. Go to Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers and Properties -> Enhancements Tab -> Disable all enhancements shown.

 

3. Create Registry value. Open the following path in registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Audio

 

4. Make a new registry entry called DisableProtectedAudioDG Type: RED_WORD Value: 0

 

5. Reboot.
