Understand: The Security Certificate Presented by this Website was Issued for a Different Website's Address – Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer Mismatched Address

If you recently browsed a secure SSL website in Internet Explorer, you may have received a red warning prompt at the top the Internet Explorer URL bar. When you click this, you see the following message.

Mismatched Address

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website’s address.

This problem might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

We recommend that you close this webpage.

This error indicates that the SSL certificate that was installed on the webserver does not match the same name you typed in in your URL bar in Internet Explorer. Part of SSL technology requires the SSL certificate to contain the same DNS name in the certificate to validate it is authentic. This may be a mistake on the webserver end, but it would be important to check the integrity of the certificate.

You can use DigiCert SSL Certificate Checker here.
