The only way to fix this issue is to upgrade to iOS 11.4

Read as follows;

HOW TO
Sync All Your Messages with iCloud in iOS 11.4
BY JAKE PETERSON 03/29/2018 7:00 PM
One major problem in previous iOS versions is that there was no way to keep messages in sync between an iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Mac. If you deleted a message in the Mac app, it would not be deleted on your iPhone, and vice versa. Apple will be fixing this issue in iOS 11.4 by storing all of the messages in iCloud, not on individual devices.

By storing messages in iCloud, Apple is solving a huge issue. If you wanted to permanently delete a bunch of incriminating messages of your iPhone, you risk having them still reside on your Mac computer since deleting them on an iPhone will not delete them from the Messages app in macOS. Those messages can be hiding everywhere without you even knowing it.

This feature was first introduced at WWDC 2017 last June, and even appeared in an early iOS 11 beta as well as the iOS 11.3 betas, but had disappeared since then. And while this feature is fantastic for keeping Messages across your Apple devices synced, as well as saving you plenty of storage space, it isn't clear yet whether you can sync text messages in addition to iMessages. If not, we at least have an easy way to manage our iMessage threads and histories no matter how many iPhones, iPad, and Macs we may have.

Step 1
Upgrade to iOS 11.4
First things first, your iPhone needs to be running iOS 11.4 in order to take advantage of Messages on iCloud. The update is not currently out yet, but is expected to arrive shortly for developers and public beta testers. If you're running the developer or public beta, you should have access from Settings –> General –> Software Update

Step 2
Enable Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentification is a security measure that uses one of your trusted devices to confirm your identity. In Apple's case, any time you sign in to service that uses two-factor authentication, one of your trusted devices receives a code that you must enter into the device using the service. If you only have one Apple device, that code is sent to that device.

You don't need to enable this security feature before activating Messages on iCloud, as Apple will walk you through the steps when you attempt to activate the new Messages feature (see Step 4 below). However, if you want to preemptively set up two-factor authentication. If you've ever used Apple Pay or Apple Pay Cash, you likely already have this done, since it's also a prerequisite for that.

Same issue! So frustrated with iPhone 6s -- many of my messages from other people arrive three days after they're sent! I use the phone for business so definitely not cool. Thinking of going android as much as I really seriously dislike google. With this phone it's been one thing after another and apparently a lot of people agree. What's so great about the iPhone anymore. Nada.

I had the same problem. What I did to get it to go away was I did a hard reset on my iPhone 5s (hold down sleep/wake button and home button on older devices with a real home button, volume up/volume down sleep/wake button for devices with a fake or no home button. Hold those down until devices turns off then turns back on.) when devices turns back on, open messages app ( it will take a minute for messages to load because your phone has just turned on and has to get all of the data for messages). When messages loads and displays all of your messages, the “messages disable” messages will still be there, but I opened any message from a person, waited a couple seconds, clicked the back button to go back to all of my messages, and scrolled up to the the bolted word “MESSAGES” is about halfway down the screen, then let go and the “messages disabled” messages at the bottom will disappear.

Sorry for the long description. My first time give a technological solution online.

But when I did it twice it came back!

So signed out again rebooted and it’s all fixed. So for me signing out of the cloud once and rebooted fixed the problem.

When I did have the message showing I was still able to send and receive messages.

Before I noticed the warning that messages are disabled from the iCloud, I noted that on some of my devices that the message history for some of my contacts had disapeared. Then I saw the ‘message disabled from iCloud’ and wondered if the missing histories might be the reason for the warning. I’ve seen several solutions on how to get rid of the warning and here is the one I followed. While in messages, hold down the down volume button and immediately follow this by simultaneously holding down the power button. Allow the forced shutdown to occur and boot back up. After doing so, the warning disaappeared and, voila, the missing message histories for my contacts re-appeared. I then did the same thing with my other devices with the same results.

Fix the problem on my iPhone X by
-Turning off the iMessage option under Messages in Settings
-reboot your iPhone
-Message will disappeared!

DID NOT HAVE TO sign out of iCloud. Would be interesting to see if a reboot is even needed, but I don't have the issue anymore and cant test that fix...

Good luck

I have the same message after doing the upgrade. I went to "repair account" and it asked me for the access code/password I use to get into my phone. So I put in the code and nothing has happened. I still have the "messages in icloud is currently disabled" message.

I am wondering if this is a scam, as the grammar isn't quite right in the message.
Has Apple answered any of these comments yet?
