How To: Completely Uninstall VirtueMart Joomla 3

Completely uninstall VirtueMart plugins, components, and SQL tables from any version of Joomla. This is a clean uninstall procedure. Uninstalling VirtueMart will free space and delete many unnecessary files on your webserver. Follow the guide and pictures below.

1. Login to Joomla backend.

2. Go to Extensions -> Manage -> Manage

3. Select all VirtueMart Plugins here and uninstall them. Easiest way is to sort by author and delete anything with The VirtueMart Development Team in it. Below is an accurate example of what to delete with the name or variation of VirtueMart Development team.

Once you successfully uninstall all VirtueMart plugins, we will login to our SQL backend to delete all SQL tables associated with VirtueMart.

4. Login to your SQL backend. In this example, we use PHPAdmin to login and manage our SQL database that had VirtueMart installed.

Note: It is always best practice to create a backup of your SQL table before making any changes to it. Do so by going to Export select Quick and ensure format is SQL. Then hit Go.

After backing up your SQL Database, expand your database with VirtueMart tables in your SQL Administration panel.

5. Look for all table instances with _virtuemart_ in the name. You will want to delete all of these. Select each table associated. Select Action -> Drop. This will delete the VirtueMart SQL tables.
