Fix: HTTP Error 503 – Service Unavailable
You may receive an error message while visiting a web page in your browser.
Service Unavailable
HTTP Error 503. The Service is unavailable.
The error must be corrected by the website system administrator who is maintaining the website you are browsing. Wiki defines a 503 error as:
503 Service Unavailable - The server is currently unavailable (because it is overloaded or down for maintenance). Generally, this is a temporary state
- The HTTP Error 503 and Service Unavailable messages are specific to Windows IIS (Internet Information Services). Verify the following settings on your IIS host.
- In IIS, Verify the Application Pool is started and IIS_USERS is given full control access on the target folder.
- Some report the user identify is outdated in IIS. Go to Application Pools -> right click your website -> Advanced Settings -> Identity and update with a new username and password.
- In Advanced Settings of your App Pool, check Load User Profile and try setting this to False.
- Check for typos in your document root path.
- All else, reboot the Windows IIS server.
