Fix: Remote Desktop Cannot Verify the Identity of the Remote Computer Because There is a Time or Date

If you attempt to remote desktop (RDP) to a Windows machine, you may receive the following error messages be including this one.

 

Remote Desktop cannot verify the identity of the remote computer because there is a time or date difference between your computer and the remote computer. Make sure your computer’s clock is set to the correct time, and the try connecting again. If the problem occurs again, contact your network administrator or the owner of the remote computer.

 

The Windows machine likely lost its domain trust. Ensure the Active Directory computer object still exists in Active Director. Check the Active Directory deleted container to see if the object was accidently deleted.

 

Verify the correct DNS settings on the Windows machine making the remote desktop connection.

 

In the rare case this is a time zone mismatch, correct the time on the Windows machine attempting to make a remote connection.

 

All else, reboot the remote machine and try to remote desktop to it again.
